Last spring - in honor of Kendall's big birthday - we tore off our deck and built a new one. Our old deck had two levels, but for our new deck we went with one level and a patio. While the deck was done in time for the big birthday celebration, the patio was not. In fact, the patio was finally finished last weekend....5 months later!

Because life is crazy in the summer....the area at the bottom of the stairs remained a mud pit for most of the summer. In fact, when it rained a lot....the half dug whole became a mini pond for the neighborhood ducks!
However, last weekend...the patio is finished. Nick worked hard all week digging the hole, laying sand, stones, dirt & finally grass seed:

Thanks to the record warmth and diligent watering...we even have grass sprouting!
Can't wait to use the deck and patio next summer!
