This last weekend, my cousin Grace got married in Redwood Falls. We decided to make a mini vacation out of the occasion and spend the weekend in beautiful Morton, MN (hometown of my Dad) at Jackpot Junction Resort & Casino.
What spells family vacation better than a casino?
We did manage to have a good time. On Friday we had a little dinner and hit up the arcade.
Saturday morning:
Buffet Breakfast! And then we had to walk off all the calories consumed. So at the suggestion of my Dad, we headed off the site of the Battle of Birch Coulee - for Kendall's first history lesson! The Battle Site is now managed by the Minnesota Historical Society and is actually pretty interesting! The idea is you can walk a trail through the recreated prairie and read about the Battle of Birch Coulee (from the U.S. - Dakota War) from the perspectives of Joseph Anderson - a captain in the U.S. Army and Wamditanka (Big Eagle), a Mdewakaton Soldier. Kendall loved it because it meant she could run uninhibited for a mile and a half.
Every so often, there would be a history lesson the battle. Even Kendall thought they were interesting! Or she just liked the pictures....
The coolest part, was on the site of the U.S. Soldiers campground, they had plaques pointing you in the direction of were the Native American Tribes were hiding out waiting the ambush the soldiers. Slightly creepy...
More running, running....
After the morning walk and history lesson, time for swimming! All the better to tire one little girl out so she would take a much needed nap before the wedding:
